A mixed selection of 10 thick natural wood branches for green woodworking, carving and wood turning, freshly cut from our sustainably managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

Each bundle contains at least 5 different tree species, and every piece is individually labelled so you know exactly which wood you are working with. This makes the set particularly interesting for woodworkers who would like to experiment with the different colours, grains, textures and working properties of British woodland species.

Tree Species

Depending on seasonal availability, your selection may include Hazel, Sycamore, Sweet Chestnut, Birch, Oak, Beech, Elder, Blackthorn, Hawthorn and Ash.

We choose a varied selection from the species available when your order is prepared.

🌳 Green Woodland Wood

Our wood is supplied green or fairly green rather than kiln-dried. Fresh wood can be particularly enjoyable to carve and work while it still contains its natural moisture.

If you intend to season the wood before use, store the pieces in a dry, well-ventilated place and allow them to dry gradually. Natural movement, checking or cracking can occur as green wood seasons.

The branches have not been washed, varnished or chemically treated. Bark, knots, natural markings and variations in colour and shape are all part of the character of the wood.

You will receive a mixed selection similar to that shown in the photographs, rather than the exact pieces pictured. Species, bark colour, diameter and shape will vary according to what is seasonally available.

Our wood is harvested in small quantities through coppicing, pruning and thinning as part of the ongoing management of our family woodland. No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
