🌿 Live Woodland Terrarium & Mossarium Kit

Create your own miniature woodland landscape using real living materials gathered from our woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

Rather than a kit made from artificial or preserved decorative materials, this collection contains living moss, a woodland fern and naturally weathered moss- and lichen-covered wood, carefully gathered to order.

It is ideal for creating mossariums, terrariums, miniature moss gardens and natural woodland displays, or for adding established natural materials to suitable bioactive environments.

🌱 Your Woodland Kit Includes

1 x Live Moss Carpet
Approx. 20 x 30cm of living green woodland moss, lifted with some of its natural growing material to help keep the moss established.

3 x Moss-Covered Logs
Naturally decaying woodland pieces with living moss already growing across them, ranging from approximately 15–30cm long.

3 x Lichen-Covered Sticks
Approx. 30cm long, with naturally occurring lichen and wonderful woodland bark textures.

1 x Small Woodland Fern
A living fern gathered to order, ready for planting into a suitable terrarium or woodland-style environment.

🍄 A Little Piece of a Real Woodland

One of the loveliest things about this kit is that the materials have already been growing together naturally in our woodland.

The moss has spread across the woodland floor, moss has colonised fallen wood, lichens have developed on branches and the fern has grown amongst them.

We carefully gather a selection of these materials so you can recreate some of that natural woodland character in your own miniature landscape.

🦎 For Bioactive & Animal Enclosures

The mossy logs, lichen branches and living ground cover can provide wonderful natural structure, texture and visual interest in suitable bioactive and naturalistic enclosures.

However, these materials are gathered directly from a living woodland and are deliberately not sterilised.

Different reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates have different husbandry requirements, so please inspect all materials carefully and determine whether untreated wild-collected materials are appropriate for your particular species before introducing them to an enclosure.

💧 Caring for Your Living Moss

Please unpack the kit as soon as it arrives.

Remove the moss and moss-covered wood from its protective packaging and mist thoroughly, preferably using rainwater.

Living woodland moss generally prefers:

• Moist conditions
• Good humidity
• Cool temperatures
• Shade or indirect light
• Protection from hot direct sunlight
• Some air circulation

Keep the moss moist but don't leave the delivery materials sealed in plastic once received – living moss needs to breathe.

🌿 Caring for Your Fern

Plant the fern into a suitable humus-rich growing medium and keep it adequately watered.

Woodland ferns generally prefer moist, shaded conditions rather than hot direct sunlight.

Because this is a naturally growing woodland plant, its size and appearance will vary according to the season.

🐛 Wild, Living & Unsterilised

This is important: this kit contains genuinely wild living woodland materials.

We do not bake, microwave, sterilise or chemically treat the moss, logs or lichen sticks, as this would destroy much of what makes them living natural materials.

As a result, your kit may contain other naturally occurring woodland life, including:

• Tiny invertebrates
• Other moss species
• Seeds and seedlings
• Fungi
• Mushrooms or toadstools
• Lichens
• Small pieces of leaf litter
• Other naturally occurring plant material

These aren't manufactured sterile terrarium decorations – they are pieces of a functioning woodland environment.

Naturally Individual

Every kit will look different.

Moss colour and density, fern size, log shape, lichen coverage, bark and the other botanical details will vary according to season, weather and what is naturally growing in our woodland when your order is gathered.

This natural variation is part of the character of the product.

🌳 Gathered From Our Surrey Woodland

Every natural component in this kit is gathered in small quantities from our own family-managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

The materials are collected selectively from suitable areas rather than clearing entire patches, allowing the surrounding woodland habitat to continue growing.
