🍂 8L Natural Dried Oak Leaf Litter
A generous bag of naturally dried Oak leaf litter, hand gathered from our woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.
Oak leaves make an excellent natural surface layer for bioactive and naturalistic enclosures. Their distinctive shapes and warm woodland colours create an attractive forest-floor environment while the leaves gradually break down as part of the bioactive system.
Our leaves are supplied completely natural and untreated – we do not wash, sterilise, microwave or chemically treat them.

🦎 Ideal For
For Bioactive Enclosures
A layer of natural Oak leaves helps recreate the varied structure of a woodland floor.
Leaf litter provides cover, hiding places and visual barriers for enclosure inhabitants, while creating additional surface area and habitat for isopods, springtails and other detritivores.
As the leaves gradually decompose, they become part of the substrate and provide decaying organic material that can be utilised by the clean-up crew.
🌿 Naturally Untreated
We deliberately do not sterilise our leaf litter.
These are genuine leaves gathered from a living woodland environment and may therefore contain naturally occurring microorganisms, tiny invertebrates, seeds or small fragments of other woodland plants.
For customers looking for genuinely natural woodland leaf litter, this is part of the product's character. However, if you require sterile material for a particular animal or controlled enclosure, this product is not supplied sterile and should be prepared according to the requirements of your own setup before use.
Why Oak Leaves?
Oak leaves are relatively tough and substantial, making them particularly useful as a longer-lasting natural leaf litter.
They break down gradually, while their characteristic lobed shape and warm brown tones create a convincing natural woodland-floor appearance.
Quantity
You will receive approximately the amount of dried leaves required to fill an 8-litre container.
The leaves are sold by volume rather than weight or individual leaf count. Because natural leaves vary in size and settle differently during packing and transport, the exact number of leaves in each bag will vary.
🍁 Natural Seasonal Variation
Oak leaves naturally vary from golden and russet brown through to deeper woodland browns.
Expect natural imperfections such as curled edges, holes, marks and variations in shape. These are genuine woodland leaves rather than commercially processed decorative foliage.
