🍂 8L Natural Dried Beech Leaf Litter
A generous bag of naturally dried Beech leaf litter, hand gathered from our woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.
Natural leaf litter is a useful addition to bioactive and naturalistic enclosures, creating a woodland-style surface layer while gradually breaking down into the substrate.
Our leaves are supplied completely natural and untreated – we do not wash, sterilise, microwave or chemically treat them.
You Will Receive
🦎 Ideal For
For Bioactive Enclosures
A layer of natural Beech leaves helps create a more varied and natural-looking environment.
Leaf litter provides cover, hiding places and visual barriers for small enclosure inhabitants while also creating additional surface structure for isopods, springtails and other detritivores.
As the leaves gradually break down, they become part of the bioactive system and provide decaying plant material for organisms that feed on decomposing organic matter.
🌿 Naturally Untreated
We deliberately do not sterilise our leaf litter.
These are genuine leaves gathered from a living woodland environment, so they may contain naturally occurring woodland material, microorganisms, tiny invertebrates, seeds or fragments of other plants.
For many bioactive keepers, this natural character is part of the appeal. However, if you require sterile leaf litter for a particular animal or controlled setup, this product is not supplied sterile and may not be suitable for your requirements without your own appropriate preparation.
Why Beech Leaves?
Dried Beech leaves have a firm, slightly leathery structure and tend to remain intact for a useful period before gradually decomposing.
Their warm brown and copper tones also create an attractive natural woodland floor in vivariums and terrariums.
Quantity
You will receive approximately the amount of dried leaves required to fill an 8-litre container.
This product is sold by volume rather than by individual leaf count or weight. Because natural leaves vary considerably in size and how densely they settle, the exact number of leaves will vary between bags.
🍂 Natural Seasonal Variation
Leaf colour varies according to the season and individual tree, ranging from golden and copper brown through to deeper woodland browns.
Some leaves may have natural holes, marks, curled edges or other signs of life in the woodland. This is normal for genuine untreated leaf litter.
