A set of five long, relatively straight natural Hazel branches cut from our sustainably managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

At approximately 60cm long and 7–15mm diameter, these slimmer Hazel sticks are wonderfully versatile. They can be used for small bird perches, Ogham staves, wand making, whittling, botanical crafts and natural decorations.

🦜 Natural Perches for Small Birds

The slimmer diameter makes these branches useful as natural perches for Budgies and other suitably sized small birds, depending on the individual bird and the diameter selected.

Unlike smooth manufactured dowels, real Hazel branches retain their natural bark texture and subtle variations in diameter. These encourage different grips and foot positions, helping to keep birds' feet healthy and naturally exercised.

The branches are supplied as natural sticks only. Cage brackets and fittings are not included. Please ensure branches are securely installed before use.

Natural Hazel Wood

Hazel has beautifully varied bark ranging from lighter to deeper browns, often with distinctive silver and greenish tones and natural markings.

These branches are supplied green, meaning they are freshly cut rather than kiln-dried or fully seasoned. They will gradually dry and season when kept in a dry, well-ventilated environment.

The sticks have not been washed, sterilised, varnished or chemically treated. Natural bark markings and occasional traces of moss or lichen may therefore be present.

Please Note

You will receive five branches similar to those shown in the photographs. These are genuine woodland branches rather than manufactured wooden rods, so exact diameter, straightness, bark colour, knots and markings will vary.

🌳 From Our Surrey Woodland

Our Hazel is harvested in small quantities through traditional coppicing and other ongoing woodland management. Coppiced Hazel naturally regenerates from the stool, producing new stems for future harvesting.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
