✨ 40cm Handmade Natural Woodland Wand
A characterful wooden wand, individually hand carved from Hawthorn, Blackthorn or Hazel grown in our woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.
Rather than turning the wood into a perfectly uniform wand, we work with the natural shape of each branch, retaining as much of its original bark, knots, bends and woodland character as possible.
Each wand is therefore completely individual – shaped partly by hand and partly by the tree that grew it.
Choose Your Wood
🌿 Hawthorn
Characterful and often crooked, with natural knots, bends and warm light-brown bark.
🖤 Blackthorn
Typically darker and more rugged, with strong knots, bends and wonderfully individual bark character.
🌳 Hazel
Generally smoother and straighter, with attractive light-brown bark and subtle natural markings.
Our beeswax polish is handmade using beeswax from our own apiary and olive oil, giving the wood a gentle natural finish while allowing its grain, bark and texture to remain the focus.
🔮 For Pagan, Wiccan & Magical Practice
Natural wooden wands can be used for a wide variety of spiritual, ceremonial and creative purposes, including:
The individual species can also be chosen simply because you feel a particular connection to that tree or prefer its appearance and character.
Our wands are carved from green or relatively freshly cut wood, rather than kiln-dried commercial timber.
The wood will continue to season naturally after carving. Small changes in colour, shape, bark and occasional fine checking can occur as it dries. These are natural characteristics of real woodland wood rather than manufacturing defects.
🌳 Every Wand Is Different
You will receive a wand similar in style to those shown in the photographs, but not an identical copy.
We deliberately select branches with strong natural character, so expect variations in:
Hawthorn and Blackthorn tend to produce the most crooked and rugged-looking wands, while Hazel is generally the better choice if you prefer something straighter and smoother.
The wood used for our wands is harvested in small quantities through coppicing, pruning and thinning as part of the ongoing management of our family woodland.
No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.
Each wand is carved by hand at Hanging Wood and finished using beeswax from our own bees.
Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
