🌿 30cm Natural Live Moss-Covered Woodland Log

Bring a genuine piece of the woodland floor into your terrarium or bioactive enclosure.

This is a real piece of naturally decaying woodland wood with fresh living green moss already growing across its surface, carefully gathered to order from our woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

Unlike decorative artificial moss logs, each piece has developed naturally outdoors as dead wood has begun to decay and moss has colonised its surface.

You will receive one moss-covered log approximately 30cm long.

🦎 Ideal for Reptiles, Insects & Bioactive Setups

Our living moss logs can be used to add natural structure, texture and planting to suitable enclosures, including:

  • Reptile vivariums
  • Amphibian enclosures
  • Isopod setups
  • Millipede enclosures
  • Beetle and insect habitats
  • Bioactive terrariums
  • Mossariums
  • Woodland terrariums
  • Naturalistic enclosures
  • Botanical displays

The combination of decaying wood, natural bark and living moss can create a particularly attractive woodland-floor feature in bioactive and naturalistic setups.

🪵 Real Naturally Decaying Wood

The wood is deliberately decaying rather than fresh-cut timber.

Dead and decaying wood is an important part of a natural woodland ecosystem, developing wonderful textures as fungi, mosses and other organisms gradually colonise it.

Each log therefore has its own combination of:

  • Living green moss
  • Weathered bark
  • Soft or decaying wood
  • Natural crevices
  • Knots and irregular shapes
  • Woodland organisms and botanical material

No two pieces will look the same.

🌱 Living Moss – Not Preserved

The moss is alive, not dried, dyed or preserved.

Each piece is carefully lifted from its woodland location and packed to help retain moisture during delivery.

When your moss log arrives:

  • Remove it from its wrapping promptly
  • Mist thoroughly, preferably with rainwater
  • Allow it to breathe
  • Keep the moss moist
  • Provide suitable humidity
  • Keep away from hot, direct sunlight
  • Position according to the requirements of your particular moss and enclosure

Moss generally prefers cooler, moist and shaded conditions, although its success will depend on the environment in which it is placed.

🐛 Completely Natural & Unsterilised

An important feature of this product is that we do not sterilise, bake or chemically treat it.

Doing so would destroy the living moss and much of the character of a genuine piece of woodland habitat.

Because it comes directly from our woodland, it may contain naturally occurring organisms, including small invertebrates, fungi, lichens, microorganisms, seeds or other tiny plants.

For many customers creating naturalistic or bioactive environments, this is part of the appeal of genuine woodland material.

However, please inspect the log carefully before introducing it to any animal enclosure. Different reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates have different husbandry requirements, and untreated wild-collected material will not be appropriate for every species or setup.

Size

  • Quantity: 1 moss-covered log
  • Length: approx. 30cm
  • Width and diameter: naturally variable
  • Living moss coverage: naturally variable

Because the wood is naturally decaying, shape, weight and density will also vary considerably.

🌳 From Our Surrey Woodland

Our moss-covered wood is gathered in small quantities from suitable areas of our family-managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Rather than manufacturing an imitation woodland feature, we're supplying a small piece of the woodland itself – naturally weathered wood with living moss already established on its surface.

Wild grown. Living moss. Real woodland. 🌿🪵
