Create a beautiful natural hanging clothes rail using a real Hazel branch cut from our sustainably managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

Our Hazel clothes rails are selected from strong, relatively straight branches with particularly attractive natural bark, making them a characterful alternative to a conventional metal or manufactured wooden clothes rail.

Suspended from the ceiling using the supplied natural jute rope, the branch creates a simple open clothes rail that's particularly suited to rustic, cottage, woodland and natural interiors.

Natural Hazel Bark

Hazel has wonderfully attractive natural bark, typically with warm light-brown colouring, silvery overtones and subtle variations in texture and markings.

We specifically select straighter branches with good-quality bark for our clothing rails, while retaining the small bends, knots and changes in diameter that show this is a genuine tree branch rather than a manufactured wooden pole.

Hanging Your Clothes Rail

The branch is supplied with 4 metres of natural jute rope for suspension.

The Hazel branch itself is substantial and strong. However, the safe working load of the finished installation will depend on the ceiling structure, fixings, rope arrangement and method of installation.

For this reason, ceiling fixings are not supplied and should be selected to suit your particular ceiling and intended load.

If you currently advertise the rail as suitable for up to 20kg, I would phrase it as:

The branch can support substantial loads, but the complete installation should only be loaded according to the capacity of your ceiling fixings and suspension method.

That is safer than guaranteeing 20kg when you don't control the customer's ceiling installation.

Natural & Untreated

The Hazel is supplied with its natural bark and has not been varnished or chemically treated.

The branch may be fresh or partially seasoned and will continue to dry naturally. Slight movement, shrinkage or checking can occur as real wood seasons.

Please Note

You will receive a Hazel branch similar to those shown in the photographs. Natural branches vary considerably, so expect individual differences in bark colour, markings, knots, diameter and straightness.

Clothes, hangers and ceiling fixings shown in photographs are not included.

From Our Surrey Woodland

Our Hazel is harvested in small quantities through coppicing and ongoing woodland management.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
