These dried Sweet Chestnut leaves have been collected by hand from our rural Woodlands in Surrey. They are an early fall collected this month. Our woodlands are completely organic and we do not use pesticides or insecticides.
The leaves can be used in bioactive setups for reptiles and insects and will break down naturally. Leaf litter provides visual barriers and safe haven for vivarium inhabitants. Sweet Chestnut leaves are huge (twice the size of our oak leaves) and provide fantastic hide outs for reptiles and insects. As the leaf decomposes it provides valuable nutrients to the substrate as well as sustaining large populations of microfauna which in turn act as natural cleaners in the vivarium and also a provide food sourcefor isopods, springtails and woodlice.
Note: We do NOT steralise or microwave our leaves. If wish to steralise the leaves you can put the bag in the microwave for 30 seconds but note the valuable microfauna will be destroyed too.
The quantity of 100 is based on an average amount of leaves that fill a 6L container. You may get more or less depending on leaf size.
