🌸 10 x Wild Blue Speedwell Plants – Veronica

A collection of 10 living blue Speedwell plants, lifted to order from our woodland meadows on the North Downs in Surrey.

Speedwell is a charming low-growing wildflower, producing delicate bright blue flowers that bring colour to lawns, meadow edges and natural planting. Its spreading habit makes it particularly attractive when allowed to grow naturally amongst grasses and other low-growing wildflowers.

You Will Receive

  • 10 x living Speedwell plants
  • Supplied as small rooted plants
  • Lifted and packed shortly before dispatch
  • Roots packed to retain moisture during transit

🌿 Ideal For

  • Wildflower lawns
  • Meadow planting
  • Wildlife gardens
  • Banks and verges
  • Woodland edges
  • Cottage gardens
  • Natural ground cover
  • Informal planting

Speedwell works particularly well in a mixed wildflower lawn alongside other low-growing plants such as Selfheal, Bugle, Ground Ivy and Wild Strawberry.

🌱 Planting & Care

Remove the plants from their packaging as soon as they arrive and allow them to breathe. Soak the roots in water before planting.

Plant directly into ordinary garden soil, gently firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly. Continue watering as necessary while the plants become established.

Our Speedwell grows naturally in the chalk, clay and stony soils found across our land. Rich, loose shop-bought compost is unnecessary and ordinary garden soil is generally a better match for the conditions in which these plants have been growing.

The plants are hardy perennials, but their appearance will vary considerably throughout the year. Plants purchased outside the main growing or flowering season may have little top growth and no flowers.

💙 Speedwell Folklore

Speedwell has been associated with travellers in traditional folklore. Its name is often linked with the old expression “speed you well”, and the little blue flowers became associated with good wishes and safe journeys.

Whether grown for its folklore, its flowers or simply as part of a more natural lawn, Speedwell is a lovely traditional wild plant to have around the garden.

Please Note

Freshly lifted wild plants can wilt during transportation and some leaves, stems or flowers may become damaged. Damaged top growth can be trimmed away and healthy roots should produce fresh growth once established.

🌳 Grown at Hanging Wood

Our Speedwell grows naturally in our woodland meadows and is lifted in small quantities as part of our ongoing meadow management.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
