🌿 10 x Ground Ivy Wildflower Plug Plants

A collection of 10 living Ground Ivy (Glechoma hederacea) plants, lifted to order from our woodland and meadow areas on the North Downs in Surrey.

Ground Ivy is a low-growing native wild plant that spreads naturally by creeping stems, forming an attractive green ground cover. In spring it produces small blue-violet flowers that are popular with early pollinating insects.

🌱 Where to Plant

Ground Ivy is a vigorous, spreading plant and is particularly well suited to naturalistic areas where it has room to establish.

It can be grown in:

• Wildflower and natural lawns
• Woodland gardens
• Woodland edges
• Banks and verges
• Beneath trees and shrubs
• Wildlife gardens
• Informal ground-cover planting
• Meadow edges

It will grow in sun or shade, although flowering and growth will vary according to the conditions.

Planting & Care

Remove the plants from their packaging as soon as they arrive and allow them to breathe. Soak the roots in water before planting.

Plant directly into ordinary garden soil rather than rich, loose shop-bought compost. Our plants are accustomed to growing naturally in the chalk, clay and stony soils found across our land.

Firm the soil gently around the roots and water thoroughly. Continue watering when necessary while the plants establish.

Leaves, stems or flowers can become wilted or damaged during transportation. This does not necessarily indicate a problem with the plant. Damaged top growth can be trimmed back and healthy established roots should produce fresh growth.

🌸 Natural & Seasonal

Ground Ivy is a perennial plant. Its appearance will vary considerably with the season, and plants supplied outside the main flowering period may have few or no flowers.

Once established, Ground Ivy spreads by creeping stems that root as they travel. This makes it useful as natural ground cover, but it can spread readily, so plant it somewhere where its spreading habit is welcome.

Our Ground Ivy grows naturally on our land and is lifted in small quantities as part of our ongoing woodland and meadow management.

No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
