🌿 10 x 40cm Natural Elder Wood Sticks

A bundle of 10 natural Elder branches, freshly cut from our sustainably managed woodland on the North Downs in Surrey.

Elder is an unusual and versatile craft wood. The branches have an attractive grey-brown bark with darker markings and a distinctive soft, spongy pith running through the centre. This pith can be carefully removed to create a naturally hollow wooden tube, making Elder particularly interesting for traditional crafts.

🪵 Distinctive Elder Wood

Elder has a relatively soft centre compared with many of our other woodland species. The pith can be pushed, drilled or carefully removed from suitable pieces to leave a hollow channel through the branch.

The sticks are supplied green, meaning they are freshly cut rather than kiln-dried or fully seasoned. They will continue to dry and season naturally when kept in a dry, well-ventilated place.

Our Elder sticks have not been washed, varnished or chemically treated. Natural variations in colour, bark texture, knots, buds and slight bends are normal.

You will receive 10 branches similar to those shown in the photographs. As these are real woodland branches rather than manufactured dowels, every stick is individual and the exact colour, diameter, straightness and bark markings will vary.

🌳 From Our Surrey Woodland

Our Elder is harvested in small quantities as part of the ongoing pruning, thinning and management of our woodland. No pesticides or insecticides are used on our land.

Hanging Wood has been managed by our family since 1976 on the North Downs in Surrey.
