This handcrafted wooden cross is made from six natural Hazel twigs, tied with jute twine to create a striking, rustic symbol of faith. Assembled by hand in our Surrey woodland studio using only materials grown and gathered from our own land, each cross carries the crooked beauty and wild strength of the forest.
With raw bark, knots, and natural curves, this piece speaks to primitive faith, seasonal ritual, and woodland spirituality.
We use traditional coppicing methods to harvest Hazel — a centuries-old practice that allows trees to regrow from the root, encouraging biodiversity and long-term woodland health.
Located on the North Downs of Surrey, Hanging Wood is a small woodland business dedicated to handcrafting natural goods from sustainably managed forests.
No imports. No mass production. Just honest materials and simple tools.

Joint Woodland Owner
Hanging Wood is located on the North Downs in Surrey. The woodlands have been owned and managed by our family for nearly 50 years. The woodlands comprise a Western Red Cedar plantation, British native woodland species, wild flower meadows, Beekeeping Apiary and a small Arboretum and ornamental gardens. Our woodlands are completely organic and we do not use pesticides or insecticides. All our products are hand made or collected from sustainably sourced or grown products in our own woodlands.
